Helping Families with Their Financial Needs

A Message from EVP & COO, Jonathan Guepe.

Helping Families with Their Financial Needs

When you've been around as long as we have at Apple Federal Credit Union, you get to know a lot of families.

Every day, we help students secure their first credit card, parents obtain an auto loan and grandparents open savings accounts for their grandkids. It's wonderful watching families grow and thrive as members.

We understand that your family's needs are unique and ever-changing. What starts as a desire to save money for the future, can soon turn into the need to manage multiple accounts, transfer money quickly and receive real-time support.

At Apple, we're committed to delivering exceptional value by meeting your needs on your schedule—and anticipating any future needs that may arise. We're here to support your family every step of the way.

Helping Families

Supporting members starts with offering the right products at the right time. For families, that means providing exceptional value for kids and young adults at the start of their financial journeys.

Apple's eXtras Student Checking is perfect for introducing the basics of money management. For members 12-23 years old, eXtras Student Checking has no monthly service fees, no minimum balance requirements and no overdrafts. A parent or guardian is required as a joint owner of the account until the youth reaches age 18, ensuring effective guardrails.

You might say, Jon, students don't write checks anymore. Believe me, I understand. But a checking account is a great way to get a Debit Card, and a Debit Card is an excellent way for students to start learning about spending.

All Apple Checking accounts come with a free Visa® Debit Card that is accepted at stores and ATMs nationwide. And you can keep track of purchases using the 'Track Spending' feature under the Plan & Learn section of the Apple Mobile App and Online Banking.

By reviewing purchases, and even catching any unexpected subscription or automatic charges, parents or guardians can provide important financial guidance at the beginning of a student's financial journey.

Apple FCU also offers a high-dividend eXtras Student Savings for members aged 23 and younger on balances up to $1,500. This account has no monthly service fees and does not require a minimum account balance. As a joint owner, parents have complete access to the account.

When they're ready, we're proud to offer a Student Credit Card for members ages 18 to 251. Apple's Student Credit Card has lines of credit up to $1,500 with a fixed rate, a huge benefit for young adults as they establish credit. Did you know that Apple FCU's Credit Card rates are capped at 18.00% APR — much lower than the national average?

Digital Convenience

While products can lay the foundation for the future, financial success also comes down to access.

Apple FCU Online and our Mobile App give you the power to manage your finances anywhere, anytime. We've made it easier to see your family's full financial picture and to move money quickly, on your schedule.

With the Apple FCU Mobile App, you can deposit checks or transfer funds between accounts anytime, day or night. Young adults can also use Zelle® once they turn 18 to safely and easily send money to trusted friends and family members from an Apple FCU Checking account.

Managing your money isn't just about convenience; it's also about control. Apple cardholders can set daily or transaction-specific spending limits through Apple FCU Online or Mobile App, restricting certain types of transactions. You can also instantly block and unblock your Credi or Debit Cards using Card Manager, providing peace of mind through an added layer of security.

Providing Support

We know families have a lot on their plates. Our job is to make banking easy while keeping your finances secure.

Apple's top-notch security helps prevent fraud before it starts, though it's a team effort. Make sure you're using strong passwords, and don't share any of your personal, login or security passcode information. You can also set up alerts within Apple FCU Online and the Mobile App to get notifications on your transactions, login authentication and more.

At Apple, we want to help you make the most of your finances by providing resources and personalized support. Our website's Financial Education Hub offers relevant news, advice and personal finance tips to simplify money matters. We also have a video library covering various money topics, including how-to guides that explain features like Card Manager and Travel Notices, as well as managing kids' accounts.

Sometimes, it helps to talk with someone one-on-one. That's why we've partnered with industry-leading BALANCE to provide free financial education and confidential counseling. You can also schedule a video appointment with one of our experts to answer your more complex questions.

Of course, you're always welcome to visit us at one of our 25 branches throughout Northern Virginia, including our newest Fairfax-Members Way Branch with multiple drive-thru lanes on Lee Highway in Fairfax.

For nearly 70 years, we've been improving lives and fulfilling dreams for families in the Northern Virginia region. Thank you for letting us help you on your financial journey, and thank you for being a member of our credit union.

Balances over $1,500 will earn our Regular Savings dividend APY.
1Members may retain the card for six (6) years or until age 25, whichever comes first. Members under age 21 are federally required to have a cosigner (must be 21 years of age or older).
