Whether you’re looking for some family fun or a romantic getaway, there's something for everyone. We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorites within just a few hours’ drive.
Brookside Gardens, MD – 45 Minutes*
A nearby beautiful oasis is Brookside Gardens, located within Wheaton Regional Park, north of Washington DC. This award-winning 50-acre public garden is free to visit and offers enjoyable scenery year-round. Their visitor center can offer trail guidance and let you know what is currently blooming.
Skyline Drive, VA – 55 Minutes*
Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park runs 105 miles along the crest of the Blue Ridge mountains, offering picturesque views along the roughly three-hour drive. The road is normally open 24/7 but can be closed due to inclement weather, so be sure to check the forecast before you go. You will pay a small admission fee for the drive, which benefits future projects in the park.
Falling Waters, WV – 1.5 Hours*
Established in 1815, Falling Waters is a small community located between Hagerstown and Martinsburg on the Potomac River. It was the site of two battles during the Civil War, Hoke’s Run and Williamsport. While you’re there, be sure to check out the beautiful waterfall, as well as several local vineyards and breweries. The drive is a short 90 minutes, making it an easy day or overnight trip.
Annapolis, MD – 1.5 Hours*
Sitting on the Chesapeake Bay shoreline is the historic town of Annapolis. Once our nation’s capital and now Maryland’s current capital, there is more than 300 years of history to be discovered. Visit the United States Naval Academy or take a leisurely stroll down Main Street. Want to get out on the water? Head over for the Wednesday Night Sailboat races or paddle down the many creeks and rivers.
Philadelphia, PA – 3 Hours*
Further north is the historic city of Philadelphia. Book a place to stay for the night or weekend and enjoy the variety of things Philly has to offer! Run up the iconic Rocky stairs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, visit Independence Hall or grab an authentic philly cheesesteak. Plus, there is no shortage of museums, shopping and sightseeing.
Williamsburg, VA – 3 Hours*
